9/16/2023 0 Comments Nailsmith hollow knight![]() ![]() Much of HK’s storytelling revolves around the concept of purpose, and fulfilling it, failing to fulfill it, and what struggles roles end up placing on people. He hasn’t simply replaced the pure nail with a new goal to fulfill lest he become useless- he’s found satisfaction with having concluded his purpose and is now just going to live. There’s no point where he hints that there is another point where he will need to move on. He never states he seeks to create something and be done again, just that he is going to live with Sheo and involve himself in crafts. The best part of that? There’s no conclusive end. He realizes what he has missed out on because of this- he spent a good deal of time in loneliness due to dedication, and he realizes that the end of a goal does not mean the death of his being. Once there, he realizes his thinking is flawed and the concept of fulfilling a singular purpose as the only path in ones life is not that absolute ideal. Once denied, the Nailsmith can encounter a new purpose in his life with Sheo. The pure nail is the point where his purpose is finished, and it would be used to finish his life. ![]() You can preform that action, taking his life by the nail as requested, and solidify that reflection of purpose by concluding his life with the item that best represents his goal. ![]() The Nailsmith’s singular purpose was the creation of the pure nail, and once completed, it was his belief that’s where his life needs to stop- his purpose is completed and thus he can be discarded. Hornet’s role is Hallownest’s protector, the Vessels are to seal the Radiance (and ones who can’t are discarded), etc. Many characters, Hornet, the vessels, others talk about/represent about the idea of fulfilling a singular role as a central part of life. Just realized that the Nailsmith’s story arc is supposed to be a conclusive reflection of the error involved with Hallownest’s cultural view of purpose. ![]()
